Coming to Poland – formal requirements

Temporary residence permit – EU/EEA citizens

An EU citizen can enter Poland with his/her document (a valid travel document e.g. passport, or another document certifying his/her identity and citizenship).

For stay up to 3 months no legalization of stay will be necessary. For stays exceeding 3 months, an EU citizen will have to obtain a temporary residence permit (Karta pobytu obywatela UE). In case of student the residence permit is issued for one year.

The document will be issued by the Department of Citizens Affairs of the Mazovian Voivodeship Office (province administration, Mazowiecki Urząd Wojewódzki). Charge for issuing of the residence permit is about 30 PLN (ca 7 €).

Temporary residence permit will be granted to EU citizens who have health insurance and sufficient resources to cover their expenses without needing social security support.

    Visa requirements – Non-EU/EEA citizens

You should apply in advance for a visa if you intend to study in Poland and you are not citizen of a country with which the Republic of Poland concluded an agreement on the abolition of the visa obligation (non-EU/EEA countries).

A short-term visa entitles the holder to stay in Poland for up 3 months, a long-term visa up to 1 year.

Students coming for a period of study longer than 3 months are obliged to apply for a visa in a consulate for the whole planned period of stay in Poland.

The authorities competent to issue the visa are the Polish Consulates in the residence country.
